Overview

Welcome to the Developmental Psychology Laboratory of Temperament and Personality

At the Developmental Psychology Laboratory within the Faculty of Psychology, we conduct longitudinal research focusing on a birth cohort of children born in 2010. Our work examines the stability and developmental change of three core temperament traits: behavioral inhibition, exuberant approach, and effortful control.

We further investigate how these temperament traits are integrated over time into personality characteristics related to self-regulation, a key construct in psychological development and education.

Three Core Temperament Traits
Individuals differ in how they respond to novelty—some approach new people, objects, and situations with curiosity and enthusiasm, while others respond with caution. These patterns are understood as fundamental aspects of individual temperament.
Similarly, individuals vary in their ability to regulate emotions. These differences are captured by the concept of effortful control, a temperament trait associated with emotional and attentional regulation.

Development Toward Self-Regulation
Our research examines how individual differences in these three temperament traits contribute both independently and interactively to the development of self-regulatory behaviors in social interactions, academic performance, and daily life management.
We also test the hypothesis that educational strategies tailored to individual temperament profiles can enhance academic achievement and practical life skills, such as financial decision-making.
